Farmers' preferences for water-saving strategies in Brazilian eucalypt plantations

چکیده

In a climate change context, changing temperature and precipitation patterns are expected to have strong impacts on Brazilian eucalypt plantations. Implementing adaptive water-efficient management practices is thus becoming necessary maintain high levels of productivity while preserving the water resources. This paper investigates ability farmers modify their current silvicultural in order adapt drought near future. We ran choice experiment state Minas Gerais, among 80 tree farmers, who were asked choose from several options associated with various financial supports. The results show that adaptation by reducing length rotation proves be far preferred option, despite costs. On contrary, density appears least chosen option respondents, which may suggest they underestimate benefits this strategy. moreover find clear relevant segmentation farmers' behavior, general preference for being driven most vulnerable sample.

Managing soil fertility in eucalypt plantations in China

More than 1.5 M ha of eucalypt plantations have been established in south China, increasing by about 100,000 ha y. Productivity is uneven and low, only about 25-50% of the world average for eucalypt plantations. Most land available for eucalypts are degraded oxisols and utilsols which also are acidic, highly leached and deeply weathered. Phosphorus deficiency is very severe and its availability...

Water-saving irrigation strategies affect tuber water relations and nitrogen content of potatoes

The dynamic and static deficit (DDI, SDI), partial root drying (DPRD, SPRD) and full (FI)irrigation strategies were applied in Agria and Ramos potato cultivars in a semi-arid area. FIreceived 100% of the potential evapotranspiration (ET); SDI and SPRD received 75% of ETduring the growth period; DDI and DPRD received 90% of ET in the first third, 75% of ET inthe second third and 50% of ET in the...

Comparing canopy temperature and leaf water potential as irrigation scheduling criteria of potato in water-saving irrigation strategies

Irrigation scheduling is important in irrigation water management. In this study, full (FI),deficit (DI) and partial root drying (PRD) irrigation strategies were applied in Agria and Ramospotato cultivars. Canopy temperature (CT) and leaf water potential (LWP) were assessed as thepotential tools for irrigation scheduling during the vegetative and productive growth stages.LWP varied between ca. ...

Saving, Risk Sharing and Preferences for Risk

Saving decisions are made jointly by household members who generally earn risky incomes. Consequently, to interpret saving patterns it is crucial to analyze the relationship between intrahousehold risk sharing and intertemporal choices. To that end in this paper the household is characterized as a group of agents with possibly heterogeneous preferences making efficient decisions. Two results ar...

Determinants of Farmers’ Intention to Adopt Water Saving Measures: Evidence from Italy

The present research is aimed at establishing how farmers can be encouraged to adopt irrigation water saving measures. By developing and implementing an extended version of the well-known Theory of Planned Behavior, we considered farmers’ propensity to adopt innovations and their water footprints. In a sample of 150 Italian farmers, we found that favorable attitudes towards water saving measure...
